Join Our Tutoring Team

Qualifications

  • Must have patience and a strong desire to help students achieve their goals
  • Must have an ability to  Ability to speak and present before small groups. 
  • Must be in Good standing with your high school, community college, college or university. 
  • Ability to work with students of diverse and different backgrounds. 
  • Possess good interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of basic academic skills application and the ability to demonstrate the successful application of various academic skills.
  •  Ability to work independently, apply critical thinking skills, solve varied problem scenarios, and manage their time well. 
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 6 hours per week
  •  Ability to use tools and software to conduct virtual meetings and session workshops. 
  •  Direct experience providing tutorial and/or academic support services for diverse student and family demographics is a plus! 

Responsibilities

 

  • Participate in training
  •  Help develop and test new training materials in conjunction with MUG staff. 
  • Serve as a mentor for new tutors after 6 months of tutoring
  • Provide tutorial and academic support services for program participants
  • Organize, facilitate, and track tutorial sessions
  • Must create projects such as workshops, training materials, or outreach projects to expand services offered through the PASS program repertoire of services
  • Maintain communications with staff and coordinators
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Write memos to communicate with PASS management or student parent/guardian
  • Be able to assist in publicizing the PASS Program thorough word of mouth marketing and social media.
  • Assist in maintaining and cleaning tutoring rooms and computer lab between sessions
  • Must maintain client confidentiality unless any information has been shared with the EPA that would be deemed illegal or a danger to the participant. All such information should be reported to MUG management immediately.
  •  Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by MUG management. 

Code of COnduct

 It is the expectation of the Maryland Umbrella Group staff and volunteers that they must always represent the organization in a professional manner. It should be understood that the perception conveyed by MUG staff, while on duty or in their private lives reflects directly on the organization when observed by a client. This includes but is not limited to oral and print communication, social media, videos, audio recordings and personal conduct. The Maryland Umbrella Group Office is a drug and alcohol free zone. It is the expectation of management that if staff is determined to be under the influence of a narcotic or alcoholic agent that staff will be required to leave the premises immediately and will be suspended until further administrative review. 

Goal

 Educational Program Assistants will address the critical unmet need for Elementary, Middle and High school students through one on one tutoring and group support, encouragement and resource identification 

Sample Activities

 EPA will help students grasp the application of basic mathematical concepts to include arithmetic, geometry, algebra, and problem solving with real world constructs. EPA will also coach students in the grasp of reading literacy and comprehension, as well as the proper application of grammatical rules and writing. Provide homework assistance in a variety of subjects. Lead a book club, offer strategic games instruction such as chess or backgammon. 

Scheduling

 

Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm, and/or Saturdays 10:00 am – 2:30 pm
